Fusion Credit Union is celebrating 15 years of helping local people to save money and access affordable loans. Hundreds of thousands of pounds have been both deposited and loaned from the community organisation, since it opened for business in March 2005.
The credit union is part of the National Association of Credit Unions and provides affordable loans from the savings of members.
It has grown over the years and now people living or working in Lichfield, Burntwood, Cannock, Tamworth and surrounding areas can access its services, with 700 current members and many thousands of loans made over the years.
Janet Bamber, Chair and one of its founders said:
“The beauty of the credit union is that it is about local people helping local people. Funds from savers goes towards affordable loans and because we are a regulated financial body, all deposits are protected.
“Our aim to help local people make the most of their money and an important element for us is enabling people avoid loan sharks.
“We have had hundreds of thousands of pounds pass through our book since we opened 15 years ago and that is thanks to our local community members and the amazing volunteers who run things day to day.”
