Local affordable loans this Christmas

We offer small affordable loans of up to £200 but if you receive Child Benefit, you can borrow up to £400

An example of how repayments work if you transfer your Child Benefit to us…

  • You borrow £200
  • Your Child Benefit for one child is £21.05 a week
  • You agree to £10 going to pay off your loan  – we take this automatically so you don’t even need to think about it each week
  • We put the £11.05 into savings with us – you can withdraw this any time you need it
  • At £10 per week, the loan will take just 22 weeks to pay off
  • The interest will be £16.03 
  • The total cost of loan will be £216.03

So many of our members with Child Benefit find this a really easy way to repay their loan and still have access to some of their Child Benefit.

October 15, 2020, International Credit Union (ICU) Day celebrates the spirit of the global credit union movement.

The day is recognized to reflect upon the credit union movement’s history, promote its achievements, recognise hard work and share member experiences. International Credit Union (ICU) Day has been celebrated on the third Thursday of October since 1948. The ultimate goal is to raise awareness about the tremendous work that credit unions and other financial cooperatives are doing around the world and give members the opportunity to get more engaged. The day of festivities for credit unions and financial cooperatives globally includes fundraisers, open houses, contests, picnics, volunteering and parades. This year’s theme is “Inspiring hope for a global community.” On October 15, 2020, join your global credit union family as we celebrate the 72nd anniversary of ICU Day!

The important bits:

Lending is subject to meeting the criteria set out by Fusion Credit Union.

You must have access to a bank account and set up a standing order before you get your loan.

Interest rates are typically 3% per month. We offer interest rate reductions for people who have paid off one loan and come back for a second.

We will agree a regular repayment which we both think you can afford. Unlike many other lenders, there is no penalty for early repayment with Fusion Credit Union.

You will need to be a member of Fusion Credit Union. There is a £2 joining fee.

All members of Fusion Credit Union are expected to be savers with us. Minimum savings usually start at £1 per week.

Information about assistance available during Covid lockdown.

Due to the Covid-19 virus, many members, or their families and friends, may be suffering financial hardship. In this newsletter we are sharing information about assistance that is available depending upon peoples circumstances. It is for information only and does not constitute advice.

Worried about your income?

You may have heard about the government support available during coronavirus.  Here are some useful links:

Claiming Universal Credit if you are out of work, or if you are in work but not entitled to sick pay: https://www.understandinguniversalcredit.gov.uk/coronavirus/

This is a combination of benefits including Housing benefit but does not include Child Benefit (CHB). You can only apply online, all communication is online, and is paid monthly.

Once someone cannot work because of the lockdown and they need to apply for Benefit ie Universal Credit, there is a gap of some weeks with no income while their application goes through. At this point they may consider applying for foodbank vouchers and for a loan – see below.

Help for people who are self-employed – The Self-employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS): https://www.gov.uk/guidance/claim-a-grant-through-the-coronavirus-covid-19-self-employment-income-support-scheme

Again, there may be a delay in receiving support.

Do you know someone who needs help with food?

The Lichfield Foodbank provides food to those in need in the Lichfield area. The service is meant for anyone who is struggling in normal circumstances. Members may not realize that even though they had been working but unfortunately are no longer, they can apply for a voucher

Fusion is one of the local agencies (along with Bromford, Citizens Advice, Curborough Community Centre and the Job Centre) who can issue a food bank voucher.  Please call us or email us for details – our contact info is at the bottom of the newsletter.  At the moment, we are using e-vouchers, which we can either send to your mobile phone or tell you the number to write down.

In Lichfield there are two centres that distribute food – Netherstowe church and Wade Street church. We are advised that currently stocks are healthy.

Loans

Loans are available to assist those who are waiting for benefit or other financial assistance.

You will be asked to tell us your income and expenditure and provide a copy of your bank statement.

If you get Child Benefit, you can agree to have it redirected to Fusion meaning we can offer you a loan. Part of your Child Benefit is then placed in a savings account for you and the rest pays off the loan.  Please apply using the form above.

Savings

Some members are fortunate to still be able to save something in these difficult times. Savings deposited with Fusion, are guaranteed by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), backed by the Government. This means that should Fusion become insolvent for any reason, your savings will be repaid in full within seven days.

Requests for savings to be withdrawn and transferred to a nominated Bank Account can be made by e mail to Fusion.

IMPORTANT UPDATED OPERATING PROCEDURES DUE TO COVID -19 VIRUS

Following the announcement on Monday by the Government of greater rules to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus, Fusion Credit Union has further modified its operating procedures to protect both members and volunteers.

  • All local Collection Points are closed. 
  • Jigsaw in Dimbles Lane will remain open until 12 noon Monday to Friday. There will be a skeleton staff on duty and this primarily to allow members to sign loan forms. This is subject to availability of staff and may change at very short notice. 
  • Strict hygiene is being enforced within the office. Please do not visit the office if you feel unwell or have been in contact with anyone diagnosed with the virus. 
  • The following procedures are designed to minimise any visits to the office.

SAVINGS –withdrawals. 

Fusion Credit Union have implemented the procedure below to assist in preventing undue social contact and any financial hardship caused to members who require to withdraw money from their savings account.
 

  • Send an email to info@fusioncreditunion.co.uk with following information. (Text or What’s App messages not accepted, we need to print a copy for your file)
  • Full name as it appears on your passbook or account.
  • Full Address including post code.
  • Date of Birth
  • First and last digit of your account number (This will be on the statement that you received prior to this years AGM and in your passbook)
  • Amount required. (You cannot withdraw more than recorded in your savings account)
  • The money will only be paid into the Bank Account listed on our system.
  • If you are unsure of your account balance or which Bank Account is recorded please call Fusion on 01543 415032.
  • Fusion Credit Union reserves the right to withdraw this facility at any time.
  • SAVINGS – deposits

We will accept deposits by cheque through the post (ensure that your name address and membership number is written on the back of the cheque.) If you are local to Jigsaw you may post cheque (details as above) through the letter box. 
We no longer accept cash for the time being.
 

  • LOANS

Email info@fusioncreditunion.co.uk with your requirements including your full name and telephone number or telephone Fusion on 01543 415032 – leave message if necessary.

For urgent loans (in cases of severe financial hardship) please telephone Janet Bamber on 01543 419150

  • MEMBERS WITHOUT ACCESS TO EMAIL

If you know of any neighbour, friend or relative who is a member of Fusion or may require a loan, and does not have access to e mail or has difficulty in using it, please assist them with the following:

  • You may e mail Fusion for them but you must make it clear on whose behalf you are doing this and the reason
  • Written applications for loans or savings withdrawals can be made by post to Jigsaw, 72 Dimbles Lane, Lichfield, WS13 7HL

Volunteers needed in Loans Department.

Fusion Credit Union Ltd, your Community Savings and Loans Bank, makes a profit from investing your savings, and the interest earned from loans to its members. Profit after operating expenses is returned to the members as an annual dividend.

All Directors, Officers and Collectors are volunteers receiving no payment for their services.

Currently we have two vacancies (volunteer) within our loans department.

1. Person to monitor that our member’s are making loan repayments on time.

Commitment- a couple of hours once or twice a week. Flexible hours and days.

Need to be computer literate.

2. Loan interviewer. Assess and approve loans, both new and top up, to our members.

Hours flexible.

Working within a friendly team, full training and support for both positions will be given.
